MEDICAL OFFICERS REPORT.
TO THE HOARD OF WORKS FOR THE ST.
SAVIOUR'S DISTRICT.
Gentlemen,
1 have the honour to submit to you my Annual Report for
the year ending December 31st, 1898.
Allowing for our annually decreasing population, I find that
the total inhabitants of the combined districts should be 24,619,
St. Saviour having a population of 11,644, and Christchurch
one of 12,975.
The number of births registered during the year were as follows:In the St. Saviour sub-district 183 males and 178 females; in the Christchurch sub-district 195 males and 188 females, making a total of 378 males and 361 females.

This gives us a birth rate of 30.02 per 1,000, being only
β’48 more than that for the whole of the London registration
district.
The number of deaths occurring in the district was 364,
divided as follows :βIn the St. Saviour sub-district there were
104 males and 82 females, in Christchurch 88 males and 82
females, and in Christchurch Workhouse there were 8 males
whose deaths were registered. Included in these are 8 cases
