keeping the sewers with which they are connected thoroughly
cleansed The quantity of water discharged from these tanks
during the year is approximately 130,000 gallons, or 580 tons
We have also a brick flushing tank in St. Margaret's Court'
and this is used periodically. In addition to these tanks we
have our river Penstocks and Hydrants.

The following is a list of works executed in this District for which licenses have been obtained:—

ADVERTISING STATIONS (RATING) ACT.
No licence has been taken out during the year under the
above Act.
PUBLIC LIGHTING.
The number of Public Lamps in the District is 577. Of
these 13 are metre lamps, which are fixed in prominent places
at the corners of streets, open spaces, etc. The lighting of the
District has during the past year undergone several changes,
caused by various circumstances. The following is a complete
list of the removals, alterations, and the causes of such.
Southwark Street.— Twelve lamps fitted with opal tops as a
trial. Not found effective.
Blackfriars Bridge Approach.— New Siemens meter lamp.
Southwark Street by Blackfriars Road.— New ordinary street
lamp.
Southwark Street by Gravel Lane.— Two lamps removed from
footway and two meter lamps fixed on refuge contructed
by the L.C.C.
