SEWERS DEPARTMENT.
COLLING WOOD STREET.
A new 12 inch low level pipe sewer, 410 feet in length
has been constructed in this street from Meymott Street to
Isabella Street, together with three manholes. An even
gradient of 1 in 163 was given to the pipes, which were laid
on a Portland cement concrete foundation and jointed in cement.
Junctions were left in opposite each house in the usual
manner. The cost of constructing this sewer was £184, the
estimated cost being £224, this difference was owing to the
roadway not requiring to be reinstated in its former condition
on account of the carriageway being afterwards paved with
asphalte.
JOHN STREET WEST.
A manhole has been constructed at the junction of the
Burrows Mews pipe sewer with the brick sewer in John Street
West. In consequence of the straw and stable refuse which
finds its way into the pipe sewer in Burrows Mews, this manhole
was found desirable. The cost of same was below my estimate.
