QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE.
On the occasion of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the
Board, in June last, passed the following resolution: Moved
by Mr. Henry J. Coles, seconded by Mr. F. H. Hendrichs and
unanimously resolved:-“ That this meeting of the Board of
Works for the district of St. Saviour's, Southwark, respectfully
tenders its hearty congratulations to Her Most Gracious Majesty,
Queen Victoria, on the completion of 60 years of beneficent
and glorious sovereignty, and earnestly trusts that she may long
be spared in health and happiness to witness the further
development of the progress and prosperity which has so
signalised that period." A copy of the resolution was accordingly
forwarded to the Home Secretary and presented to Her
Majesty, who was graciously pleased to receive the same, and
the reply was ordered to be entered upon the minutes.
STEPS, BLACKFRIARS BRIDGE.
On receipt of copy of a resolution passed by the Vestry of
Christchurch, calling attention to the danger arising from
children playing on the Steps at the southern end of Blackfriars
Bridge, the Board caused a communication to be addressed to
the Bridge House Estates Committee, Guildhall, and a reply
was shortly afterwards received stating that instructions had
been given to the City Surveyor to have the necessary rails
put up.
MILK ANALYSIS.
On receipt, in July last, of a circular-letter from the Vestry
of Hackney, calling attention to the divergence of opinion
between the local analysts and those at Somerset House as to
the correct mode of analysis of milk and the interpretation to
be put upon the result of such analysis, the Board expressed its
agreement with the Vestry that conflict of opinion between two
bodies of experts made it almost impossible to enforce the
provisions of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act in certain cases.
