The following Carriageway and Footway Paving Works were
executed by the Board's workmen during the year:—
RED CROSS STREET.
The carriageway from Southwark Street to the wood paving by
Union Street has now been paved with 3-in. by 5-in. by 9-in.
Jarrah wood blocks on a foundation of 6-in. Portland cement
concrete, covering an area of about 520 superficial yards. This
is the first street in this District that has been paved with hard
wood, and up to the present on fault has been found with it.
18,900 blocks were used in carrying out the work which has been
done as a test job for the hard wood paving.
The whole of the footways have been relaid and made good
where required with new stone, 230 feet new curb fixed, and 70
feet refixed.
The portion of the carriageway of the above-named street,
from Southwark Street to Park Street, has been taken up and
repaved with redressed granite pitching on a bed of 6-in. Lias
Lime concrete, special attention has been given to this street on
account of the very heavy traffic which passes through. The
footways were entirely repaved last year with new 2½-inch York.
THREE CROWN SQUARE.
The whole of the carriageway in this square was prepared for
and paved with 1½-inch Compressed Rock Asphalte on 6-in.
