"R. BODMER."
The Board caused a copy of the above Reports of Mr. Bodmer
to be sent to the Local Government Hoard, the Royal Commission
on water Supply, the London County Council, and the several
Vestries and District Boards of Works of the Metropolis.
In September, 1892. a circular-letter was received from the
Vestry of St. Mary, Islington, forwarding copy of a communication
which they had addressed to the Local Government Board
relative to the danger alleged to exist by reason of foreigners
coming to this country from cholera-infected ports on the
Continent, and urging that Board to issue orders to prevent
indigent foreigners from lauding on English soil. The letter was
referred to the Sanitary Committed, who reported that, in their
opinion, the precautions which were being taken by the Local
Government Board for the prevention of cholera, adverted to in a
circular from the Local Government Board, dated 25th August,
1892. were sufficient, and therefore no action was taken in the
matter.

Also a circular-letter from the Vestry of St. Anne, Westminster,
forward big copy of a letter which they had addressed to
the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, calling attention
to the state' of the law relating to street music, and suggesting
that every organ-grinder should be compelled to take out a
license and exhibit on his instrument a number for the purpose of

with the suggestion, and caused a letter to be written in

Also a circular letter from the Vestry of Camberwell,
forwarding copy of a communication which they had addressed to
the London County Council, asking the Council to insert clauses
in its General Powers Bill, 1892, to enable Vestries and District
Boards to grant superannuations or allowances to workmen in
their employ. The letter was referred to the Paving and General
Purposes Committee, who approved the suggestion, and, the
Board concurring, a letter was written to the Council in support
of the suggestion. The Council, however, were of opinion that
the Required powers, if thought necessary, should be applied for
by the local authorities themselves. Afterwards the Camberwell
Vestry wrote requesting the Board to appoint delegates to attend
a conference upon the subject, and suggesting the establishment
of a superannuation and provident fund for Workmen employed by
Vestries and District Boards. The Board complied, and appointed
Messrs. Back, Blatchford and Hayward. A conference was held
at Camberwell Vestry Hall accordingly, and a draft scheme
drawn up by or on behalf of the delegates and submitted to the
