???ings from inside, and dedicated the site to the public. This
???is been paved, and trees have been planted, at the City's
???pense.
The proceedings of this Hoard and their Sanitary Officers in
???lation to Sanitary Works are detailed in the Medical Officer's
report;at and in the various appendices thereto. It
only necessary to add, that on the breaking out of the present
???pidemic of Small-Pox, the Board and their Sanitary Committee
???aye directions for the distribution of disinfectants on a liberal
???cale, and shortly afterwards they erected a disinfecting apparatus
???or disinfecting by means of heat articles of clothing and bedding
???ontaminated by the disorder, or otherwise rendered contagious,
??? as to restrict as much as possible the dissemination of infection;
???nd numerous cases have occurred in which these and other
???lutary powers conferred by the Health Act of 1866 have been
???eneficially exercised. The Board have also had under their
???erious consideration—indeed they had actually resolved upon—
???ne erection of a temporary hospital for the District, in compliance
with sect. .'57 of the same Act, when an announcement was made
???f additional accommodation at the Stock well Hospital, and the
???imultaneous opening of Hospital Ships under the control of
???ne Admiralty for Small-pox patients, relieved them of the
responsibility of so doing. The disinfecting apparatus, which
???nswers the purpose admirably, and for which, as to the design,
???he Board are indebted to Mr. Arnold Goodwin, has been fitted
???p at a small cost in their stone-yard in Ewer Street. Any inhabi???ant
of the District desiring to have infected bedding, linen, &c.
???urified, should apply to the Sanitary Inspector, who will
???isinfect such articles free of charge.

A petition has been presented by the Board to Parliament on
the subject of the meditated enclosure of land reclaimed from the
???ver by the Thames Embankment, praying that the whole of the
and so reclaimed may bo preserved unbuilt upon as a recreation
ground for the benefit of the public.

A return of Metropolitan Assessments prepared in accordance
with sect. 17 of the Valuation (Metropolis) Act, 1869, having been
???orwarded by the Manager of the Metropolitan Asylum District,
????howing the comparative rateable value of Christchurch to be
about two-sevenths of that of St. Saviour's, it is intended to
???pportion the future accounts on that basis in regard to establishment
charges and other items not wholly applicable to either
???arish, in lieu of two-fifths hitherto apportioned to Christchurch;
and the Board have resolved that the sub-division of St. Saviour's
???ortion of the accounts into Clink and Borough divisions shall be
