The Birth-rate of the Parish for the year 1891 would be 17.3
per 1,000.
This Birth-rate is higher than the one recorded in the previous
year, notwithstanding the births were 15 less than in 1800. This
circumstance is accounted for by the fact that the calculations for
1890 are based upon the higher census of 1881, whereas the birthrate
for 1891 is estimated upon the census of 1891, which, as before
stated, is lower than the census of 1881. To arrive at the correct
population of our ever changing parish, a census ought to be taken
annually. The births registered in London in the year 1891
numbered 134,003, being in the proportion of 31.8 annually to 1,000
of the estimated population. This was a considerable rise from the
rate in the immediately preceding year, which had been 30.8 ; but
with this exception the rate in 1891 was the lowest as yet recorded.
Deaths.
In St. Martin-in-the-Fields during the year 1891, the total Deaths
numbered 420, being 38 more than in tho previous year. This
