SPECIAL GENERAL WORKS COMMITTEE.
On the 17th May, 1888, the above Committee submitted their
Scheme for Slop and Dust Collecting, Watering, General Works
Repairs to Footways and Carriageways, Flushing Sewers, and
Gulleys, and cleansing Channels and Urinals. On the 11th June,
the Scheme was adopted and a Sub-Committee appointed for making
the necessary arrangements. On the 12th July, Mr. Gabriel's tender
for wharfage 'accommodation, and that of Mr. Clarkson, for the
supply of vans, horses, harness, drivers, &c., were accepted. Consequent
upon the increased work in the Surveyor's department, a
Clerk was appointed to assist him, and also a Foreman of General
Works and labourers necessary for the purpose. On the 15th
November, 1888, the acceptance of tenders for the supply of stone,
wood blocks, cement, lime, ballast, and sand was reported. Comparative
statements have from time to time been submitted by the Committee
showing a considerable decrease in the cost of the various work
as compared with the Contract system. Numerous meetings
have been held by the Committee, and the attendances of the
members thereat are duly recorded on pages 6 and 7 of this Report.
SALE OF FOOD, &c., ACTS.
A summons was heard on the 9th August, 1888, at Marlborough
Street Police Court in respect of a sample of Mustard certified by
the Public Analyst as adulterated, when the vendor was fined £l
and costs.
ST. MARTIN'S PUBLIC BATHS AND WASH-HOUSES.
Messrs. James Mason Andrew and James Hemming, were
on the 17th May, 1888, elected Commissioners of the above for the
usual term of 3 years.
ST. MARTIN'S MIDDLE CLASS SCHOOL FOR GIRLS.
On the 13th December, 1888, Mr. J. M. Andrew and Mr. T. Hill
were respectively re-elected Governors of the above School for the
customary period of 5 years.
CAMDEN TOWN CEMETERY ACT.
On the 28th June, 1888, Mr. David Laing was elected a Trustee
under the above Act in the place of Mr. Francis John Barron,
resigned.
