lessening the distance a person conld fall, and the chance of
injury in case of a fall. The alteration was carried out
under contract by Messrs. Hatfield and Son, of No. 32, King
Street, Regent Street, at a cost of £108 0s. 6d.
MACHINE BROOMS, &c.
The machine brooms required refilling with new bass
on the average once in six weeks. The cost of refilling
the machine brooms, and new hand brooms and brushes for
Orderly Boys, and repairs to the machine brooms, amounted
to the sum of £99 Is. 3d.
WATERING.
The street watering throughout the year was carried out
by Messrs. William Mead and Co., of Paddington, at a
schedule of prices. The water is supplied by the Grand
Junction Water Works Company by contract. The cost of
team, labour, &c., was £850 9s. 6d., and water, £401 16s. 5d.
STAND POSTS.
The cost of repairs to stand posts and swan necks,
repacking, &c., has amounted to £8 5s. 8d., and new stand
posts, £12 15s.
ORDERLY BOYS.
There are twenty-two Orderly Boys at work in the main
thoroughfares, under the direction of the Foreman. Bins
for the reception of the horse droppings are fixed in the
streets at suitable places.
