place a refuge, lighted with a Sugg's Lambeth Lamp of
80 candle power, in the centre of the roadway at the spot
named, and this was done accordingly. The refuge has
since proved a great boon to pedestrians as the crossing is
somewhat dangerous and very wide.
The refuge in Pall Mall between No. 1, Waterloo Place
and the United Service Club was also moved about 12 feet
east of its original site. The new position is much more
convenient for both pedestrian and carriage traffic than the
old one was.
BLENHEIM STEPS.
These steps, which are constructed of granite, were
constantly becoming smooth and slippery from use, although
frequently roughened. Your Vestry therefore had them
covered with Mason's patent non-slipping steel and lead
treads to get over the difficulty.
CARRIAGEWAY ENTRANCE.
An asphalte carriageway entrance was formed across the
footpath to Nos. 37, 38 and 39, Broad Street, at the expense
of the owner of the premises.
FIRE STATION.
The London County Council have placed a new street
Fire Station on the Parish Boundary, in the centre of the
Haymarket, immediately below Jermyn Street. This
position was agreed to by your Vestry and the Vestry of
St. Martin-in-the-Fields, after several alternative sites had
been rejected.

The undermentioned Streets have been paved with Asphalte during the Year:—
