There having been several gas explosions in the electric
light conduits in this and other parishes. The St. James's
and Pall Mall Electric Light Company have with the
consent of your Vestry and at the request of the Board of
Trade placed a number of conduit ventilators in the footpaths
and guard posts at the corners of streets, &c , so as to
prevent explosions in the future by stopping the accumulation
of coal gas.
STREET NAMES.
Additional street names have been put up in Naylors
Yard (1) and Rose and Crown Yard (2).
LICENCES
Have been granted for the erection of 82 hoardings
and scaffolds for the purposes of re-building, alterations, &c.
Licence has also been given in 54 cases to open the roadway
to repair water pipes, or for similar purposes. The cost
of making good these openings is charged to the persons
taking out the Licences.
COAL PLATES.
During the past twelve months 19 coal plates were cut
into the paving.
REFUGES.
With a view to minimise the frequent occurrence of
accidents on the crossing in Regent Street, between the
County Fire Office and the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain,
and at the request of the Police, your Vestry decided to
