There were at Lady-day but two Drinking Fountains in
this Parish, both of which are situate in the Churchyard
wall in Piccadilly. These Fountains were erected and are •

LAVATORIES AND SANITARY CONVENIENCES,
PICCADILLY CIRCUS.
During the twelve months ended at Lady-day, the men's
closets have been used by 208,478 persons, the ladies' conveniences
by 206,601, the men's lavatory by 43,186, and
the ladies' lavatory by 6,872. No record is kept of the use
of the urinals, for which no charge is made, but they were
resorted to by a very large number of persons during the
year, and prove every year that they supply a much needed
want in the neighbourhood.
It will be seen on reference to the accounts (pages 150
and 154), that the fees received during the year for the
use of the lavatories and conveniences amounted to
£1,938 7s. 10d. and the outgoings for working expenses to
£1,775 9d. 9d. To the outgoings, however, must be added
a proportion of the establishment expenses for supervision
and management, and £1,300, which has been paid to
Messrs. Finch & Co., on account of contract for alterations
and repairs to the lavatories and conveniences.
In the early part of the year the conveniences were
cleansed and painted, and certain repairs carried out, in
addition to ordinary general repairs, at a cost of £65.
The Vestry s attention was called during the year to
the desirability of improving the sanitary condition of
