The Bill has been read a second time and referred to a
Select Committee for consideration.
London County Council (Water). This Bill, which would
empower the London County Council by agreement to purchase
or take on lease and hold lands and water rights, has
been reported by the examiner as not complying with
Standing Orders,
London County Council. (Tower Bridge Southern
Approach.) This Bill would empower the County Council
to make a new approach to the Tower Bridge on the southern
side of the Thames. The estimated expenditure on capital
account for the purpose of the Bill is £436,000. The
property proposed to be acquired is situated in the parishes
of St. George-the-Martyr, Southwark, Bermondsey, and St.
John, Horsleydown.
The Vestry did not deem it necessary to take any action
on this Bill.
London County Council. (Improvements.) This Bill
empowers the London County Council to carry out certain
improvements and acquire lands for various purposes.
By Clause 4, power would be given to the Council to alter
and reconstruct the Bridge known as Highgate Archway and
the approaches thereto in the Parishes of Islington and
Hornsey, and in connection therewith to widen Hornseylane
and Archway-road in the said parishes; and to widen
Wood-lane in the parish of Hammersmith, at the southern
end where it joins the Uxbridge-road.
The Highgate Archway improvement is estimated to cost
£28,000, of which the Ecclesiastical Commissioners are to
contribute £1,000, and the remainder is to be borne in equal
