GOVERNORS AND DIRECTORS OF THE POOR.
In accordance with the requirements of the Local Act
2 Geo. III., cap. 58, the Vestry met on the 25th April, for
the purpose of appointing twenty-one “substantial and
discreet" persons, either from their own body, or from
among the Justices of the Peace for Middlesex or Westminster,
or other "creditable inhabitants" of the Parish,
such persons, together with the Churchwardens or Overseers
of the Poor, to be called Governors and Directors of the
Poor. A list of the gentlemen so appointed is given on page
11, and a statement of the receipts and expenditure of the
Board on page 154.
This is the last occasion upon which Governors and
Directors of the Poor will be elected for this Parish, for as
the result of'the inquiry to which reference was made in the
last Annual Report of the Vestry, the Local Government
Board made a Provisional Order (which was duly confirmed
by Parliament) repealing as from the 25th March, 1890, the
local legislation relating to the Governors and Directors, and
transferring the duties and powers of that body to the
Vestry.

increased unsolicited by £50 per annum, “in order at once
