LIGHTING.
All the old street lanterns in the Parish have been
removed by Messrs. S. Pontifex and Co., of 22, Coleman
Street, E.C., and replaced with new of the same pattern as
those recently fixed in Regent Street.
In Great Marlborough Street the consumption of gas
in five lamps was increased from 5 to 7 feet per hour, one
lamp was removed entirely from opposite the Prince's Hall,
Piccadilly, and one from the centre of Arundell Street,
Three new lamps were put up in Arundell Street and one in
Blue Ball Yard, and the position of one lamp was altered in
each of the following streets, viz.:—Blue Ball Yard, Ganton
Street, George Court, and Arundell Street.
The refuge lamps are furnished with a "midnight
arrangement," and a man is employed by your Vestry to
light, extinguish, and clean these lamps and those in the
urinals, and also to reduce the light at 12 o'clock at night.
SEWERS.
The small defective brick sewer in the Haymarket
between Jermyn Street and Norris Street, and that running
through No. 155, Regent Street, were destroyed, and pipes
substituted—12 inch being used in the former case and 9
inch in the latter. Repairs were also carried out to the
sewers in Charles Street, Cork Street, and Rupert Court.
A length of old disused brick sewer, which was discovered
in Piccadilly opposite the Vestry Hall, was destroyed.
Complaints having been received of the smells arising
from the sewer ventilators at the upper end of St. James's
Place and at the Beak Street end of King Street, and from the
gullies in Golden Square, and consents having been obtained,
