LICENCES
Have been granted for the erection of one hundred and three
hoardings and scaffolds for the purposes of re-building,
alterations, &c. License has also been given in twenty-six
cases to open the roadway to repair water pipes, or for similar
purposes. The cost of make good these openings is charged to
the person taking out the licence.
COAL PLATES.
During the past twelve months eighty-six coal plates were
cut into the paving.
STREET NAMES.
The sum of £11 8s. l½d has been expended in purchasing
and fixing street name-plates, principally for altering the
names of Cross Street, Cross Court, and South Row to
Ganton Street, Heddon Court to Heddon Street, and
Great Vine Street to Warwick Street.
LIGHTING.
A "Westminster" lamp of 80 candle power has been
fixed in the centre of Waterloo Place, and lamps with extra
burners, in the centre of Arundell Street (at the top), on the
refuge in Pall Mall by the Haymarket, at the corner of
Lexington Street and Silver Place, and at the corner of
Market Street, opposite Norris Street. Additional lamps
have also been fixed in Cleveland Row, Little Crown Court,.
Bridle Lane (urinal), Berwick Street (3), Archer Street,
Great Windmill Street, &c. New lanterns with opal tops
have been placed on the whole of the side lamps in Regent
