17th February, 1887.—That the practice of paying the masons
paviours, and other workmen for Good Fridays, Christmas
Days, and Bank Holidays, be discontinued, so far as regards

THE ELECTION OF VESTRYMEN AND AUDITORS
OF ACCOUNTS
Was held on Monday, the 10th day of May, the places
appointed for the purpose being—Pall Mall Ward, Willis's
Rooms, King Street ; Church Ward, Vestry Hall, Piccadilly;
Golden Square Ward, National School House, Marshall
Street ; and Great Marlborough Ward, Board Room, Poland
Street.
In order to give the greatest possible publicity to the
matter, a postcard was sent to every ratepayer notifying the
time and place for election, and as it was thought that the
evening might prove more convenient to many ratepayers, the
hour of election was fixed for seven o'clock in the evening, instead
of at noon, as in former years. Notwithstanding this
additional publicity, however, and the change of hour, the
number of ratepayers attending the Elections did not exceed
the attendance on previous occasions, and in two of the
Wards was less than usual.
A second election of one member was rendered necessary
by the double return of Mr. Edwin William Parker for Church
and Golden Square Wards. Mr. Parker electing to represent
the former, an election to fill the vacancy in Golden
Square Ward was held on the 21st of June, when Mr
William Beszant was returned.
