PROPOSED ALTERATIONS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
The announcement by the Government of their intention to
introduce a Bill in the present Session of Parliament. for the
creation of a single Municipality for the whole Metropolis, naturally
attracted some attention from the authorities at present charged
with the administration of local affairs, and at the request of
the Fulham District Board of Works, the Westminster District
Board of Works, and the Vestry of St. George, Hanover Square,
the Vestry have appointed four of their members to attend a
conference of representatives from Metropolitan Vestries and
District Boards to consider the Bill of the Government when the
same is presented.
ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC.
At the request of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales,
President of the Royal College of Music, the Vestry granted the
use of the Vestry Hall for the preliminary examination of candidates
for scholarships in the College, and nominated three
gentlemen for appointment as honorary local examiners to conduct
the examination. The gentlemen so nominated were Mr. J. F.
Burrowes, Mr. Alfred Gilbert, and Mr. C. S. Jekyll, and their
appointment was duly made by the Prince of Wales. Thirtynine
candidates presented themselves for examination.
CONCLUDING REMARKS.
The Vestry have not attempted in the foregoing Report to touch
upon mere routine business requiring attention from day to day,
but have endeavoured to submit to their fellow parishioners, in as
clear and succinct a manner as possible, a statement of the principles
which have guided them in the discharge of their trust, and of the
present condition of the Parish.
By Order,
HARRY WILKINS,
Vestry Clerk.
