Vestry and District Board of Works in the Metropolis, with a
request that they would support the views expressed therein:—
"That this Vestry, understanding the Metropolitan Board of Works
usually revise the Salaries of their Officers early in the year,
respectfully urge the Board to carefully consider each case before
granting any increased remuneration, with a view to the exercise
of due economy in the administration of the funds of the Rate
payers, having regard to the present stagnation in trade, and the
increasing burden of local taxation."
INCREASED CHARGES OF WATER COMPANIES.
This subject has been brought under the notice of the Vestry on
more than one occasion, and at the close of the year a memorial,
requesting that a meeting of Ratepayers might be convened to
decide upon some definite course of action, was under consideration.

As stated on page 67, the Vestry have not been able to give
effect to their desire to erect a public urinal in the Haymarket.
By the 88th Section of the Metropolis Local Management Act,
1855, the Vestry are empowered to provide and maintain at the
cost of the rates, water-closets, and other conveniences, as well as
urinals, but their efforts to provide this necessary accommodation
have hitherto proved ineffectual. Plans were prepared for the
erection of a certain number of underground urinals and waterclosets
in different parts of the Parish, but the Vestry did not feel
justified in proceeding against the strong opposition from residents
in the localities affected.
Two convictions have been obtained during the year for posting
objectionable bills in public urinals in the Parish.
