the Vestry; viz.: connecting one of the most
troublesome portions of the Local Sewer, with the
deep Low Level Main Sewer, nearly 50 feet from
the surface; this has had the effect of relieving the
Vestry from the anxiety of further trouble at that
particular point for the present, but the general
condition of the tributary Sewers in Regent Street
uecessarily remains much as it was.
The re-construction of an old portion of a Sewer
between Little Pulteney Street and Crown Court
was another work of peculiar difficulty as it ran
beneath the party walls of several houses, which
had to be carried on needles and underpinned.
The Vestry may congratulate themselves that
this work was successfully done and without
accident, though during its progress (necessarily
tedious) it was to me a source of much personal
anxiety.
The List shows such matters as have been done
with regard to Lamps, Street Names, &c., and
which require no comment, as they are small
matters executed only by the orders of, and after
the propriety of them has been decided on by the
Works and Improvements Committee.
I feel great regret at not being able to report any
work executed in connection with Public Urinals, or
conveniences generally.
