have had the honor to servo you, that all the
second hand paving stones that have from various
causes accumulated from time to time, and have
been most useful in repairs, are now exhausted,
the consequence will be that in the next annual
estimate, the means will have to be provided to
meet this difficulty, which is most usefully done
by executing some material or important work
with new stone, and applying the old to more
secondary matters. I am sorry to say, that a large
portion of the Pitching Paving and Footways is
in a condition that is far from desirable or
satisfactory.
The portion of the Hay market that was re-laid
with new stone has turned out very successfully, in
fact the prompt, able, and honest manner, in which
Messrs. Mowlem, Burt, and Freeman executed the
work, as in fact they do all their works, is the best
guarantee that the Parish have practised the truest
economy and obtained as sound and lasting a piece of
Pitched Paving as can be found in the Metropolis.
The rest of the Paving matters may be dismissed
with little comment: they are periodically discussed
and arranged by the Works and Improvements
Committee, and as the Vestry place every reliance
upon their judgment, nothing is done without their
sanction and order, and after proper investigation.
