“ about their drainage. Several cases have recently
“ come under my notice where life has been lost
amongst this class. No one should take a house
“ without a certificate from a trustworthy authority
“ that the drains are properly laid, and builders and
“ bricklayers neglecting their duty in this respect,
“ should be liable to prosecution and fine. The
“ negligent way in which the drainage of houses is
“ performed, is a constant source of disease and
“ death in this and other Parishes of England.“
Water Supply.
The Vestry having kindly given me permission,
at the beginning of the year 1867, to use one of
the vacant upper rooms of the Vestry Hall as a
Chemical Laboratory, I have from time to time
submitted the waters from the cisterns to analysis.
I have also examined the Waters supplied from the
mains of
The Grand Junction Waterworks,
The West Middlesex Waterworks,
The Chelsea Waterworks, and
The New River Waterworks.
The waters supplied to the mains has, on the
whole, been as free from impurities as water taken
from polluted sources, like the Thames and New
River could be expected to be. In the history of
