MORTALITY OF THE SEASON OF
THE YEAR.
Having ascertained the districts in which the
mortality occurred, and then examined the tables of
mortality, for the purpose of ascertaining whether
the deaths had occurred in particular seasons, or all
through the year,
the following table presents the
results:—

From this it will be seen that the excess of
death in the year is almost entirely accounted for
by the death of the first quarter of the year 1864,
which was 101 over the death in the first quarter
1862, and seventy over the death of the same
quarter in 1863.
NATURE OF FATAL DISEASES.
In order to ascertain whether this mortality
depended on any particular disease or class of
diseases, I threw all the deaths into the following
seven groups :—
