DISEASE IN DISTRICTS.
I now proceed to inquire with regard to the
mortality of 1864, whether it was more severe in
one district than another, and I present the
following table:—
District of Parish.
Deaths in
1864.
1863.
1862.
St. James's Square
167
151
127
Golden Square
256
232
247
Berwick Street
272
214
218
Workhouse
139
159
135
834
756
727
It will be seen from this table that whilst there
has been little or no difference in the mortality of the
Workhouse between 1864 and 1862, that there has
been a great increase of death in the Berwick
Street Division of the Parish, less in the St. James's
Square District, and least of all in the Golden
Square District. It will be seen that the difference
between the mortality of 1862 and 1864 is 107,
whilst the excessive mortality of St. James's Square
Division is 42, and that of Berwick Street is 74,
making altogether 116, and thus giving the districts
in which the excessive mortality occurred.
