amounts expended do not seem large full value has
been obtained by the Parish for them.
The list of Paving Works is reduced to a
minimum, only one special work being reported;
but the time of the few men employed by the
Parish has been fully accounted for in the maintenance
of the various roads and footways. It will
be seen from the annexed list and my fortnightly
reports, that no small responsibility is incurred with
regard to the various openings made by the gas and
water companies, which always require immediate

and the general repair of the whole of the Macadam
roads, account in the main for the time of the
workmen employed, and to a great extent for
my own time, for it is of course much less trouble
to a surveyor to order a contractor to re-lay a
whole street, which is the most obvious and usual
course than for himself personally, with two or
three men, to watch and maintain the same in a
sound condition, or at any rate a safe one.
Sooner or later much larger outlays than this
year's account shews, will be necessary, but I have
to congratulate the Vestry that on this occasion
