stone breakers in the yard: other part of the
same stone has been usefully employed in re-paving
Mason's Yard, Duke Street, in slight repairs, and
we still have a considerable quantity left, stored in
the yard, I should say enough, or more, to last us
during the present year in repairing or relaying
paved carriageways; at the present time, taking
the whole of the streets into consideration, I think
there is every reason to be satisfied with their
condition, especially the Macadamized portions,
which will probably require but slight repairs till
winter.
The horse and cart purchased and maintained
by you are and have been extremely useful in preventing
delays to men at work by keeping them
constantly supplied with all the necessary materials.
It will be seen from the List of Sewerage Works
that two new Sewers have been built, one in Peter
Street and one in Noel Street, both of which were
previously not only in a most dilapidated condition,
but did not answer their purpose in carrying away
the deposit in them; this was also the case with
the Sewers in Old Burlington Street and Cork
Street, to remedy which new inverts or curved
bottoms have been built and the falls improved,
whereby all their contents either find their own
way or are easily swept out.
It was intended last year to form a number of
ventilating shafts in Sewers of small calibre, but
upon examination and experiment it has been

St. James, Westtminster.
