From further information I have received I feel confident the
Ve???y have the power to compel the Tramway Companies to pave
wit??? their tram rails with wood or other material the Vestry may
dir???.
The Carriageway in Long Lane has been repaved with new
??? 6 blue Guernsey Granite Cubes (from Tabard Street to the
bo???dary) and the old granite cubes taken up have been dressed and
rel ??? in side streets by the Vestry's workmen. The work has been
ca???ed out to my satisfaction.
The footways in Lancaster Street have been repaved with 2-inch
pa???t Victoria Stone, except the western side from Newington
C???eway to Borough Road. The old York Rockhill paving taken
up??? as been resquared and relaid in footways of side streets by the
V???ry's workmen to my satisfaction.
The Brunswick Rock Asphalte Paving Company have paved with
as??? alte the carriageway and footway of John Street, Old Kent Road.
In ???he carriageway the asphalte was laid 2 inches in thickness on
6 inches of Portland cement concrete. In the footways the asphalte
w??? laid 1 inch in thickness on 4 inches of Portland cement concrete.
A part of carriageway in Thomas Street, Old Kent Road, part of
f??? way Borough Road (opposite Messrs. Day and Martin's); also
ca??? ageway and footways in Clarence Street, Old Kent Road, opposite
S??? Mary's Schools. The work has been carried out to my satisfaction
I would suggest that a lamp standard and safety crossing should
b???onstructed at the Newington Causeway end of the London Road,
???site the “Alfred's Head," public house between tramrails. The
???way company being requested to alter their lines.
