Aug. 1st.—Three. Convulsions; Suffocation from accidentally falling upon his face on the
floor whilst under the influence of alcohol; Cut throat.
Sept. 5th.—Eleven. 4 drowned in Docks; two drowned in Thames; 1 drowned in Surrey
Canal: 3 accidentally suffocated in bed whilst with parents, and syncope due
to vomiting.
19th.—Three. Convulsions; suffocated by fall into clothes bucket; accidentally
suffocated in bed.
Oct. 3rd.—Three. Chronic alcoholism; Drowned in Docks; Accidentally suffocate
whilst in bed with its mother.
„ 17th.—Six. Syncope; Fracture of skull; Apoplexy, two; Kidney disease, death
accelerated by alcoholism; Self neglect and want of food.
Nov. 7th.—Three. Drowned in Docks ; Meningitis from falling on head; Heart disease.
„ 21st.—Four. Accidentally suffocated in bed; Pleuro-pneumonia from uninhabitable
condition of dwelling and want of proper food; Heart disease; Peritonitis following
abortion.
Dec. 5th.—Two. Accidentally suffocated whilst in bed with its mother; Hemorrhagic
Apoplexy.
„ 19th.—Three. Typhoid fever; Heart disease; Pleuro-pneumonia, death being
accelerated by alcoholism.
„ 31st.—Six. Inanition from premature birth; Convulsions; Drowned in Docks;
Drowned in Surrey Canal; Fatty degeneration of the heart due to alcoholism;
Accidentally suffocated in bed.
Zymotic Diseases.
The number of deaths in the Parish and the Asylums Board Hospitals is 142. Last year it
was 132. The increase is almost entirely due to the aforementioned epidemics.

Smallpox, thirteen; Scarlet Fever, fourteen; Enteric Fever, seven; Typhus Fever, none;
Puerperal Fever, three; Continued Fever, none; Relapsing Fever, none; Diphtheria, twentyseven;
Diarrhœa, thirty-one; Measles, eight; Whooping Cough, thirty-one; Erysipelas,
three; Membranous Croup, four; English Cholera, one.
