Sept. 6th.—Accidentally drowned in Thames whilst bathing; Rapture of aneurism of aorta;
Congestion of lungs; Marasmus; Found drowned in Thames; Marasmus produced
by consumptive bowels; Accidentally drowned by falling from bed into a pail of
water; Meningitis following injury to face; Suicide by cutting throat; Accidentally
suffocated by falling on his face whilst in a state of intoxication ; Found dead.
„ 20th.—Drowned in Southwark Park; Drowned in Thames; Asphyxia from congestion of
lungs ; Natural causes accelerated by general want of food.
Oct. 4th.—Two drowned in Thames.
,, 18th.—Found drowned in Thames; Hemorrhagic apoplexy; fracture of base of skull from
fall down ship's hold.
Nov. 1st.—Apoplexy; Suicide by drowning; Acute congestion of lungs due to exposure.
„ 15th.—None.
Dec. 6th.—Drowned in Surrev Commercial Dock; Convulsions; Heart and liver disease from
alcoholic excess; Accidentally suffocated whilst in bed with its mother; Drowned
in Surrey Commercial Dock; Suicide by drowning in the Surrey Canal, Plough
Bridge.
„ 20th.—Senile decay, accelerated by burns; Suicide by throwing himself in front of a train
in motion.
,, 31st.—Suicide by drowning during temporary mental derangement; exhaustion from
chronic anaemia: Injuries from accidentally falling from the gallery of a gas works
scrubber—suddenly.
Zymotic Diseases.
The number of deaths in the Parish and the Asylums Board Hospitals is 132. Last year it
was as low as 70. The great increase is almost entirely due to the increase in the diseases of
infants—most markedly shown in Measles and Diarrhœa.
The complete enumeration of deaths from Zymotic Diseases is as follows:—
Smallpox, none; Scarlet Fever, six; Enteric Fever, eight; Typhus Fever, two; Puerperal
Fever, one; Continued Fever, none; Relapsing Fever, none; Diphtheria, ten; Diarrhoea,
twenty-seven; Measles, forty-two (last year only six); Whooping Cough, twenty-three;
Erysipelas, six; Membranous Croup, 3.
