Uncertified Deaths.
Nineteen deaths are uncertified. On all these cases the Coroner stated that, in his
opinion, the inquest was not necessary. In 1891 fifteen deaths were not certified. In
1890 only four.
Inquests.
Sixty-seven inquests have been held. Verdicts by:—
Jan. 19th.—Asphyxia and shock to system consequent on scald; Syncope, following
accidental fall from bed; Acute pleurisy, terminating in convulsions ; Bronchitis.
Feb. 2nd.—Found drowned in Thames; Found drowned in Surrey Canal; Injury to spinal
cord from falling downstairs.
,, 16th.—Accidentally suffocated in bed; Fatty degeneration of heart; Drowned in
Surrey Commercial Docks during the fog on 23rd December; Acute peritonitis.
March 1st.—None.
„ 15th.—Gangrene; Phthisis; Drowned in Surrey Commercial Docks; and two suffocated
in bed.
April 5th.—Burns on face and arms; Accidentally suffocated in bed.
„ 19th.—Found drowned in Thames (unknown).
May 3rd.—Senile decay; Accidentally suffocated with a shawl in bed.
„ 17th.—Found drowned in Thames (unknown).
June 7th.—Three drowned in Thames; Congestion of brain.
„ 21st.—Rupture of duodenum from ulcer.
July 5th.—Drowned in Thames by falling off a barge whilst at work; Accidentally suffocated
in bed; Suicide whilst in a state of unsound mind.
,, 19th.—Three drowned in Thames.
