Inquests.
Fifty-nine inquests have been held, the verdicts being -
January 20th. Six.—Drowned in Docks, 2 ; Suffocated in bed ; Injury to head from being
struck by a train ; Convulsions ; Fatty degeneration of the heart
from excessive drinking.
February 3rd. One.—Heart disease.
„ 17th. Three.—Accidentally drowned in the Thames; Disease of liver, lungs and
kidneys from excessive drinking ; Collapse of lungs from whooping
cough.
March 3rd. One.—Accidentally suffocated in bed.
,, 17th. Two.—Marasmus ; Epilepsy.
April 7th. One.—Convulsion fit.
„ 21st. None.
May 5th. Three.—Pyæmia following laceration of left foot by being crushed between wheel of
a van and the ground; Apoplectic lit; Accidentally suffocated with
bottle in bed.
June 2nd. Three.—Accidentally suffocated in bed ; Apoplexy from excessive drinking; Drowned
in Thames from falling off a barge.
„ 16th. One.—Accident—concussion of brain caused by a fall in the street on June 5th.
July 7th. Four.—Tabes Mesenterica; Fatty degeneration of heart from drinking; Accidentally
drowned by falling into the Surrey Canal whilst playing upon
barges ; Accidentally suffocated in bed,
,, 21st. Three.—Accidentally suffocated in bed ; Accidentally suffocated at the birth;
Dentition and convulsions.
