SEWERS.
The length of sewers under the jurisdiction of the
Vestry have not been increased since last year, and
therefore remain the same, viz., 54 miles, 7 furlongs,
175 yards.
Additional Works to existing Sewers.
New manhole and side entrances have been constructed
to sewers in Senior Street, Connaught Square,
and at the East end of Hyde Park Square, at a cost
of £198 1s. These works were carried out to enable
the sewer flushers to enter the sewers in a more expeditious
manner, instead of travelling considerable distances,
for the purpose of cleansing and bringing the
heavy deposits to the surface for carting away.
At the North end of the sewer in Green Street,
which is not connected with the sewer in Harrow
Road, a brick Flushing Tank, with automatic syphon,
has been constructed to discharge 520 gallons of
water as often as considered necessary, for flushing the
sewers at Green Street, North Wharf Road, and Church
Place, a length of 892 feet.
A similar description of tank has been constructed
at the West end of Hampden Street, to discharge
about 330 gallons of water periodically through the
sewer, in order to keep it in a sanitary condition.
