178
children, 679 occurred in St. Mary's and 127 in St.
John's Sub-district. The 806 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 27.0 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the Parish. In London the births were
equivalent to an annual rate of 32.7 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Deducting from the total deaths (611) those of 72
non-parishioners— 71 in St. Mary's Hospital and 1 in
the Lock Hospital—the corrected number of deaths in
the Parish is seen to be 539. To this number must
be added the deaths of 39 parishioners in extra-parochial
hospitals and institutions within the Metropolis
during the same period, making a total of 578 deaths
—243 males and 335 females—equivalent to an annual
death-rate of 19.4 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and deaths, together with the
birth and death-rates in the parish, and in its two Subdistricts,
during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined
table:—
