manner.
Heating by
Hot Air.
The question of providing means for raising the temperature
of the Baths has been under consideration for
some considerable time, and during the past year practical
effect has been given to this improvement, the
work having been carried out by Messrs. Wenham and
Waters, engineers, of Paragon Works, Croydon. The
equable temperature at which the air in the several baths
can be now maintained is a source of great comfort to
bathers, and cannot fail to have a beneficial effect, keeping,
as it does, the Institution up to date, and in the front
line of modern requirements.
Although there has been no increase in the Receipts
from letting the Hall, the Commissioners feel that the
advantage of the improved lighting and warming has
been fully appreciated by those who have hired it during
the past winter.
No. 4 Boiler.
In October last a serious leakage occurred in No. 4
Boiler, which had been in constant use for 19 years, and
upon examination it was found to be in such a defective
state that it would be necessary either to replace it by a
new one, or have it extensively repaired. Upon the
Boiler being turned over, the Commissioners decided
upon the latter course, and invited Tenders by public
advertisement for cutting away the front, the whole of the
bottom plates, and the inner tube, practically making a
new Boiler.
The Tenders for this work varied to such an extent
that the Commissioners were somewhat apprehensive of
difficulty in accepting the lowest Tender. They however
caused very careful enquiries to be made, and finding the
