WALTERTON AND FERNHEAD ROADS—LAVATORY.
The construction of this Lavatory was commenced
in March, and it was opened to the public on the 13th
of October in the same year. The accommodation is—
for men, fourteen urinals and five closets, with a lavatory
fitted with three tip-basins, and an attendant's
room. A charge of one penny is made for the use of
each closet and lavatory, the urinals being free.
In the portion allotted to women, there is an
attendant's room, four closets, and a lavatory, with
two tip-basins, one closet being free, and for the use
of the remaining closets or lavatory a charge of one
penny is made. Since its opening it has conferred
an immense boon upon pedestrians of both sexes, the
women especially express their appreciation to the
attendants of the accommodation provided.
It has now been opened five months, and during
that period 16,579 persons have paid for the use of
the closets and lavatories, and the numbers are daily
F -2
