New Sewers and additional Works to existing
Sewers, &c.
In that portion of Westbourne Terrace sewer
extending from James Street northward to the head
wall, a length of 320-ft. the invert was so defective
and the gradient flat that the sewage could not flow
freely away, but accumulated and became offensive.
In order to improve the gradient it was necessary
to construct about 100-ft. of new brick sewer, with
step junction from the Bishop's Road sewer, and
underpin and form new invert and reverse the gradient
of old brick sewer from south to north, and connect
it with the new sewer. At the same time many old
disused drain mouths were bricked up and other incidental
works carried out in connection with the foregoing
improvements, at a total cost to the Vestry of
£629 1s. 8d.
