REPORT, 1889-90.
One hundred and ninety-four new pipe drains have
been laid under roadways from sewers to houses or
other buildings, at a cost of £1,498 12s. 7d., to
private persons, in consequence of the old drains
being either broken in or obstructed or in an otherwise
insanitary condition.
The above-mentioned drains, together with other
Jobbing Works to sewers and drains, including the
construction and repairs of gulleys, fixing traps at
outlets of drains in various parts of the Parish, were
executed by the Vestry's Contractor at a total cost of
£2,435 1s. l0d.
The various complaints, numbering one hundred
and sixty-four, received in the Surveyors Department
from time to time during the year, having reference
to obstructions in drains, bad smells arising therefrom
and other causes, received attention, and where
possible, prompt action was taken to remedy any
defects which would remove the cause of such complaints.
The sum of £25 16s. 0d. has been received by the
Accountant from parties requiring examinations to be
made from brick sewers, in order to ascertain the
condition of house drains under the roadways, or to
remove obstructions therein, if practicable.
Many of the large brick sewers have been cleansed
and one hundred and eleven loads of heavy grit, &c.
removed therefrom. The small brick and pipe sewers
have been flushed with water, when necessary.
