REPORT, 1889-90.
walls required pointing, the Vestry passed a resolution
that the disused drain mouths be bricked up, and
other necessary repairs effected, which has now been
executed. The majority of the houses in this street
were drained by means of old red earthenware pipes,
in a defective and leaky condition, so that it became
necessary to serve notices by the Sanitary Authorities
on the occupiers, for them to amend their drains.
Twenty-four new stoneware pipe drains, trapped at
sewer, have in consequence been constructed from
sewer and through the respective premises at the cost
of the owners or occupiers. The new drams of the
houses and the better condition of the sewer has been
conducive in effecting a considerable improvement.
A brick manhole entrance has been constructed
over the sewer at the West end of Douglas Place, so
that examination can be made therefrom as to
condition of the sewer, also of gulley and other drains in
its immediate locality. Mr. Whiteley, for whose
benefit the work was carried out, paid for the cost of
same, amounting to £26 8s. 7d.
Drains, &c.
In order to improve the levels of the roadways and
channels in Harrow Road, from Amberley Road to the
Western boundary of the Parish, prior to paving same
with wood, it was necessary to construct new guileys
and alter and repair existing ones specially for tins
work at a cost of £444 19s. 6d.
