During the 13 weeks ending January 1st, 1887, being the
fourth quarter of the registration year, 687 births and 492 deaths
were registered in Paddington. Of the 687 births, comprising
346 male and 341 female children, 565 occurred in St. Mary's,
and 122 in St. John's Sub-district. The 687 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 24*3 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the parish. In London the births were equal to
an annual rate of 31'4 per 1,000.
