in St. Mary's and 150 in St. John's Sub-district. The 783
births were equivalent to an annual rate of 28.3 per 1,000 of
the estimated population of the parish. In London the
births were equal to an annual rate of 31.4 per 1,000.
Deducting from the total deaths (512) those of 66 nonparishioners—57
in St. Mary's Hospital and 9 in the Children's
Hospital, Paddington Green—the corrected number of deaths
in the parish is seen to be 446. To this number must be
added the deaths of 23 parishioners in extra-parochial
hospitals and institutions within the metropolis, during the
same period, making a total of 469 deaths—220 males and
249 females—equivalent to an annual death-rate of 16.9 per
1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and of deaths, together with the
birth and death rates in the parish and in its two sub-districts,
during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined table:—
