comprising 380 male and 363 female children, 594 occurred
in St. Mary's, and 149 in St. John's sub-district. The 743
births were equivalent to an annual rate of 27.4 per 1,000
of the estimated population of the parish.
Deducting from the total deaths (375) those of 38 nonparishioners
in St. Mary's Hospital, the corrected number
of deaths is seen to be 337,—179 males and 158 females,—
and the annual death-rate to be 12.4 per 1,000 inhabitants.
In calculating this death-rate, the deaths of parishioners in
hospitals, institutions, or places outside the parish, and of
non-parishioners in the Lock Hospital and in St. Mary's
Hospital, have not been included.
The number of births and of deaths, together with the
birth and death rates in the parish and in its two sub-districts,
during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined table:—
