Carts.—All necessary repairs are now done on the
Wharf by the Vestry's own staff, and new carts are
built as and when required, the cart gear being thus
maintained at an efficient standard.
Harness.—All the repairs and new harness, with
the exception of collars and housings, are executed on
the works.
Dusting.—A dust cart when loaded will contain
three-fourths of a chaldron of ashes, and one-fourth of
a chaldron of breeze. The average cost during the year
per load for collecting, sifting, haulage, canal dues, and
all expenses, has been 1s. 6.69d. During the year
3,561.25 horses were at work, being an average of 11.37
per day, and the average number of loads per horse per
day equals 4.72 loads. 16,830 loads of dust were
collected, being an average of 53.76 loads per day.
From this quantity there has been obtained 12,497
chaldrons of ashes, and 8,914 chaldrons of breeze, the
same having been sent away in 657 boats, the maximum
price obtained per chaldron being 7s. 6d., and the
minimum price 2s. l0d. 1,650 tons of soft core have
been obtained out of the dust collected, and 75j boats
have been employed in the removal thereof.
The before-mentioned quantity of rough dust would
equal 1,175,000 cubic feet, and would make a heap
500 feet long by 235 feet wide, and at 10 feet in

Fodder.—Advertisements have been issued three times during the year for the supply of Fodder, and the average cost per horse for keep and bedding has been about 19s. 9.59d. per week.
