The length of additional Streets completed and
taken to as Parish Roads, with the previous extent
thereof, make a total of 41 miles, 7 furlongs, and 41
yards, under the control of the Vestry.
The Gas and Water Companies and others have
opened the Public Streets in 3,017 places for the purpose
of laying and repairing pipes, and the costs of
re-instating the Roadways and Footpaths have been
paid to the Vestry.
Lighting.
Twenty-four Lamps were erected during the year,
making a total of 1,699.
The erection of additional Lamps, and alterations
in the line of Footways, have rendered it necessary
to remove 12 Lamps to new positions.
The Imperial Gas Light Company's charges for
supplying the Gas, Lighting and Extinguishing the
Lamps, Painting and Maintaining the Posts and
Lanterns, were during the four quarters, namely, June,
1873, at the rate of £4:8:0 each Lamp per annum
— September and December, £4:18:0, and in March,
1874, £5:8:0.
Buildings, Sewers, and Drains.
Forty-eight Notices were received by the Vestry,
in accordance with the 76th Section of the Metropolis
Local Management Act, 1855, for the erection of 103
Buildings, namely—a temporary Church; Public Baths
and Wash-houses; 3 School Buildings; 93 Houses;
and 5 Stables. The orders of the Vestry for the drainage
