best Granite Stones were re-dressed and re-laid, and
the old Rag Stones and Pebbles carted to the Parish
Wharf for macadamizing purposes, and the deficiency
was made good with new Granite Paving, which made
a great improvement in the surface of the Roads in
question.
The Channel Paving in various Streets has been
re-laid and kept in good repair, and many Water
Channels and Crossings have been paved with the
best description of Granite.
Improvements.
The Carriageway and Footpaths in Great Western
Road and Kensal Road at their junction with the
Carlton Bridge, have been raised and widened, and a
thoroughfare formed and completed over the Bridge to
Carlton Terrace.
General Works.
The closing of certain thoroughfares for carriage
traffic, as sanctioned by the Metropolitan Board of
Works, during the repair of the Roads, and the continued
use of our Steam Road Roller, have hastened
the operations of the workmen and the consolidation
of the metalling, to the manifest improvement of the
roadways, and saving of animal power.
Several new Streets and portions thereof have
been paved by the Vestry, under the powers of "The
Metropolis Management Acts," at the cost of Owners
of Houses abutting on such Streets.
