In the absence of an actual Census since 1861,
I have estimated the increase of Population upon
an assumption of the increase going on at the
same rate as in previous years. The population
up to April 1867, would in that case be 96,876;
and the death-rate, calculated on that basis, will be
17.8 per 1000. Some thickly populated Streets or
Districts, taken separately, may show a higher rate
of mortality. It is to be remembered that an
increasing density of population is generally attended
with an increase of the death-rate; so that
in future years most vigorous Sanitary measures
will be required to avert it. The Parish, however,
bears a most favourable comparison, at present,
with any other within the Metropolitan area.
