The twenty-one houses in respect of which orders tor compulsory
drainage were served, between Lady-day. 1867, and Lady-day, 1858
and mentioned in the last Report as "Not yet done," have since that
time been drained.
PAVINGS.
New footway paving has been laid in Narrow Street, Limehouse,
and Belgrave Street, Ratcliff; also in parts of Grosvenor street,
Ratcliff; New Gravel Lane and West Gardens, Shadwell ; and Brew-
house Lane, Wapping.
Old footways have been relaid in Tyte's Alley, Shoulder of
Mutton Alley, and Kidney Stairs, Limehousr; James Street, Ratcliff;
and in Fox's Lane, Hastings Place, Ellen's Place, Elbow Lane and
part of West Gardens, Shadwell.
New granite carriage-way has been laid in Narrow Street,
Limehouse; West Gardens and part of Wapping Wall, Shadwell.
Old carriage-ways have been relaid in Tyte's Alley, and Shoulder
of Mutton Alley, Limehouse; Queen Street, Broad Street, Butcher
Row, and Brook Street, Rateliff; Wapping Wall, New Gravel Lane,
Fox's Lane, part of West Gardens, Hastings Place and Elbow Lane,
Shadwell; and part of High Street, Wapping.
The contract for paving works expired at Lady-day, 1859, and a
new contract has been entered into for two years for the performance of
the masons' and paviors' works in the district.
Arrangements have been made for paving the unpaved portions
of the parish of Limehouse, and the Metropolitan Board of Works has
authorized this Board to borrow the sum of £14,000 for that purpose.
A portion of this sum has been borrowed to be repaid by equal annual
instalments in fifteen years. The new paving in certain streets will be
commenced forthwith.
UNPAVED ROADS.
These roads have been repaired with gravel and broken stone.
The roadway of Belgrave Street has had the levels altered and improved,
and has been made up with new material.
Considerable quantities of old materials have been broken up and
used in the repairs of these roads.
