I venture to say this deserves to be known. In 1883,
when I asked permission to construct the first tank, I hardly
expected there would be 95 at work within nine years.
RECREATION GROUNDS, &c.
A greenhouse was built in the Penge Recreation Ground;
and three more of the spaces at Rushey Green, were laid down
in grass, with a few beds which were planted with small shrubs.

SHORTLANDS AND NUNHEAD RAILWAY.
The works on this line have been steadily pushed forward
during the year, and they may be said to be practically completed.
The following list will give the total widths of the roadways,

Beckenham Lane 50 feet.
Southend Lane 50 „
Catford Hill 44 „
Brockley Lane 40 „
Brockley Road 50 „

Bridge from 1 in 40, as required by the Act, to 1 in 30. This
was not acceded to. Another application was also made to alter
the gradient of the northern approach of Brockley Lane from 1 in

of 1 in 60, it would be necessary to interfere to a large extent
with the entrances to adjacent houses. The Board approved of
the proposed alteration, subject to the sanction of Parliament
being obtained. On account of the slippery nature of the
material some difficulty was experienced in forming the embankments
on the railway, particularly about Catford.
PARLIAMENTARY SCHEMES.
There was no bill deposited during the year affecting the
roads or sewers vested in the Board. A Bill was deposited by
