The plans and estimates having been agreed to, and
approved by the Board, the matter was submitted to the
Metropolitan Board of Works by this Board's Representative,
and on the 19th July he wrote that, acceding to his
plea of urgency, the Metropolitan Board had resolved to
waive their usual practice of viewing the proposed improvement
before considering the application for a contribution,
and had decided to comply with the Le wish am Board's
request by contributing half the estimated cost of £1,150
for widening the bridge and roadway thereunder. The Board
passed a resolution thanking the Metropolitan Board for
their consideration of the matter, as one of urgency, and
for their promised contribution.
After some further negotiation, the Board concluded the
agreement with the Railway Company for the execution of
the works necessary in the alteration of the bridge, and the
matter was thus far concluded.
The estimated cost of this improvement was £1,150,
including the sum of £700 agreed to be paid to the Railway
Company in respect of the extra work to be carried out
in the bridge consequent on the widening of the same. The
Metropolitan Board of Works undertook to contribute onehalf,
viz., £575, the other half has been raised by loan spread
over a term of thirty years.
