adopt the roads therein mentioned as Main Roads in this
District, and to contribute towards the cost of the repair
and maintenance of the same accordingly.
The application is at present before the Council.
There is not at the present time any official definition

BECKENHAM ROAD IMPROVEMENT.
The attention of the Board had for some time been
directed to the condition of the old bridge carrying the
London Brighton and South Coast Railway over the Beckenham
Road, at the Penge Railway Station, and to the
necessity for widening and improving the road under the
same, should opportunity occur. On the 2nd May, 1888,
the Surveyor reported that the Railway Company were about
to renew the girders of the bridge, and that the proposed
alterations might afford an opportunity for widening it.
The matter was referred to the Local Committee, and the
Board wrote to the Company requesting them to defer action
in the matter, and to receive a deputation from the Board in
relation to the same. A reply was duly received from the
Company, stating that the works would be deferred, and
that the Directors would receive the deputation.
In the meantime the Surveyor had prepared a plan of
the proposed improvement; and the members of the Local
Committee, with Mr. Williams, the Chairman of the Board,
and Mr. Jerrard, the Chairman of the Works and General
Purposes Committee, attended the Directors when the matter
was referred to the Engineer of the Company to consult
with the Board's Surveyor as to the plans, &c.
